LEON, Iloilo — In a significant stride towards peace, the Philippine Army has dismantled the Southern Panay Front (SPF) of the New People's Army (NPA) in Panay. This milestone brings us closer to declaring a Stable Internal Peace and Security (SIPS) on the island, marking a turning point in our battle against insurgency.
According to Lt. Col. J-Jay Javines of the 3rd Division Public Affairs Office, the SPF was officially declared dismantled last April, signaling a major blow to the NPA's presence in the region. With their forces reduced to a mere squad size, they no longer pose a significant threat.
The focus now shifts to dismantling the Central Front (CF), Regional Sentro De Gravidad (RSDG), and Komiteng Rehiyon-Panay (KR-Panay). Once achieved, we can recommend Panay for SIPS status, mirroring the success seen in Negros Occidental.
The declaration of SIPS symbolizes the collective efforts of the military, Philippine National Police (PNP), local government units, and the community in eliminating the insurgency threat. It signifies that the people have rejected the NPA and embraced peace and development.
However, amidst these strides towards peace, we must not forget the sacrifices made. The recent encounter in Leon, Iloilo, resulting in the deaths of two rebels, alias Junjun/Cedrick and Nahum Camariosa alias Rodel/Bebong, serves as a somber reminder of the human cost of conflict.
As Nahum Camariosa's body is laid to rest beside his wife and daughter in Tigbauan, Iloilo, we reflect on the lives lost and the families affected by the insurgency. But we also look forward with hope, knowing that each step towards peace brings us closer to a brighter future for Panay.
The road to lasting peace may be long and challenging, but with determination and unity, we can overcome it. Let us continue to work together toward a future where conflict is but a distant memory and peace reigns supreme in Panay.
