As the holiday season draws near, the Department of Health (DOH) has advised the public to continue practicing proper sanitation to protect themselves against disease.

This, as two new cases of mpox were reported in the province last November, according to data released by the DOH Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) Calabarzon.

In a recent press release, the DOH-CHD office said the two new cases – an unidentified male and an unidentified 66-year-old female – began experiencing mpox symptoms such as fever, headache, and rashes during the first week of November.

Laboratory tests later confirmed that they contracted mpox.

The male patient is currently in monitored home isolation and is receiving medical care, while the female patient was hospitalized but has since recovered as of November 13.

This brought the total number of cases of mpox reported in Calabarzon to 13 as of November 22.

DOH Assistant Secretary Dr. Ariel Valencia cautioned the public to remain "vigilant," even as he stressed that there is no need for alarm.

"With robust public health measures such as effective prevention, accurate detection, and timely isolation of mpox cases, we can effectively curb its spread and protect our community," Valencia said.
