Local authorities are serious in ensuring the safety of every airline passenger using the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), starting with land transportation to and from the airport.

This, as 14 public utility vehicles (PUVs) plying routes to NAIA were found violating existing transportation regulations this Tuesday, June 8.

The PUV were apprehended by combined elements of the Philippine National Police - Aviation Security Group (PNP-Avsegroup) and Land Transportation Office (LTO) for various violations.

According to Avsegroup, each driver was issued a Temporary Operator's Permit (TOP) by LTO personnel for violations that include "contracting" passengers, refusal to convey, and operating without the necessary franchise authorization.

The violators will be subjected to appropriate penalties and administrative sanctions in accordance with LTO and relevant transport regulations.

Avsegroup said that the joint operation was conducted in line with the directives of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and spearheaded by Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon.

Aviation police said that all apprehended vehicles were initially brought to the Avsegroup headquarters for documentation and have since been turned over to the Central Office of the LTO in Quezon City for proper disposition.

It added that the operation forms part of the continuing campaign to promote integrity, safety, and lawful conduct within airport premises and surrounding transport hubs, in coordination with the Manila International Airport Authority and the New NAIA Infra Corp.
