At least 13 medical frontline workers of Pasay City General Hospital tested positive of Covid-19 even after being vaccinated by Sinovac. This prompted medical director Dr. John Victor de Gracia to order the temporary closure of the hospital’s out-patient department.
He pointed out that the vaccines they received could have been the big reason why the virus failed to fully impact on their health after being infected
ALL 13 medical health workers of Pasay City General Hospital (PCGH) who tested positive for COVID-19 even after having been vaccinated earlier are in stable condition and are expected to recover soon.
PCGH Officer in Charge Dr. John Victor de Gracia, who admitted that he himself contracted the virus noted that they are mostly asymptomatic.
He pointed out that the vaccines they received could have been the big reason why the virus failed to fully impact on their health after being infected.
Among those who were infected were nurses, doctors, one medical technologist and three administrative personnel.
“Mabuti na lamang at nabakunahan na kami bago ma-infect kaya hindi namin masiyadong ininda iyong sakit, sa totoo lang kung nangyari ito bago kami na-inject baka meron sa aming naging seryoso ang kalagayan,” he said.
The development, however, prompted Dr. de Gracia to order the temporary closure of the hospital’s out-patient department starting yesterday.
According to Dr. De Gracia, they were among the city’s health workers who received their first dose of Sinovac that were given by the national government.
Dr. De Gracia explained, “Sinovac ensures (for about) 53% you can prevent being infected (with the coronavirus) but (it) ensures 100% (you’re not) progressing to a severe case or even death”.
“With any vaccine brand, there is always a possibility na ma-infect ka pa rin. Pero (the vaccine) prevents you from becoming a severe case that would need hospitalization,” he pointed out.
He further said that the second dose of the vaccine to ensure its full effect on those who had received their first dose in Pasay’s vaccination rollout would be from March 30 until April 5 for the Sinovac.
For the AstraZeneca, it will be on last week of April, he added.
Dr. De Gracia reiterated that all of them are in stable condition.
“Almost all of us are asymptomatic. One is admitted as moderate risk. But he is fine,” Dr. De Gracia said, stressing that he expects that all of them will recover soon.
