The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 8 is set to undertake 1,521 projects with a total budget of P58.655 billion this year across the six provinces of Eastern Visayas.

The Department’s regional office said it is dedicated to advancing infrastructure that is vital for economic growth, social development, and disaster resilience in the region.

To enhance road connectivity, the DPWH will focus on implementing 288 projects involving road construction, widening, rehabilitation, and improvement, alongside 51 projects for bridge repairs, widening, and new construction.

This year, 175 flood control management structures will also be built in Eastern Visayas, serving as a primary defense against flooding and protecting lives and properties.

As the government’s construction arm, DPWH Region VIII will execute various initiatives under its Convergence and Special Support Program (CSSP).

Among these initiatives are 22 projects related to the Tourism Road Infrastructure Program (TRIP), three projects under the Kalsada Tungo sa Paliparan, Riles at Daungan (KATUPARAN) Program, and four projects under the Roads Leveraging Linkages for Industry and Trade Infrastructure (ROLL-IT) Program for 2025.

Additional CSSP projects include seven water supply systems, 14 initiatives under the National Building Program, 587 facilities under the Basic Infrastructure Program (BIP), 326 projects under the Sustainable Infrastructure Projects Alleviating Gaps (SIPAG), and 44 road projects funded by the Special Road Fund - Motor Vehicle User's Charge (MVUC).

Notable high-impact projects funded under GAA 2025 include the Tacloban City Causeway, Samar Island Medical Center, Basey-Maydolong Road, Mahaplag-Hilongos Road, and the Tacloban City Bypass Road Extension.

These infrastructure development efforts by DPWH Region VIII are anticipated to significantly transform Eastern Visayas by improving connectivity, boosting economic development, and generating employment opportunities.

They will also bolster resilience against natural disasters, contributing to poverty reduction and improving the overall quality of life for the residents.
