WANTING to protect young adults against Covid-19 infection, the Quezon City government on Friday has opened its online booking for vaccination of minors with comorbidities, aged 12 to 17.
This, after the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) approved the proposal to inoculate children using vaccines that were granted Emergency Use Authorization by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
“We have seen in the past months how the virus has been affecting our kids as well. It’s high time that we expand the vaccination program to them. We, in the local government, would like to assure everyone that the inoculation process for the children will be as smooth, if not better, as the ones we had for the adults,” said Mayor Joy Belmonte.
The kick-off activity was held at the Quezon City General Hospital attended by Belmonte, Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya of the Department of Interior and Local Government, and representatives from the Department of Health.
Dr. Maria Lourdes Eleria of the QC Task Force Vax to Normal said that Pfizer and Moderna will be used in the inoculation as these two vaccines were the only ones approved by the FDA for use of the target group so far.
Previously, the city government started its online registration for minors with comorbidities.
Parents or guardians of these minors may register and book them for vaccination through the QC VaxEasy , or through their respective barangays.
Meanwhile the target group is considered part of the Priority Group A3.
Comorbidities include medical complexity, genetic conditions, neurologic conditions, metabolic/endocrine diseases, cardiovascular diseases, obesity, HIV infection, tuberculosis, chronic respiratory diseases, renal disorders, hepatobiliary diseases, and those who are immunocompromised due to disease or treatment.
