THE Philippine National Police (PNP) is no place for barbaric superiors, says National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Brig. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. moments after signing an order which effectively relieved a police major from his post.

In a statement, NCRPO spokesperson Lt. Col. Eunice Salas confirmed the removal of Major Knowme Sia as chief of the Las Piñas Police Station’s Administrative Resources Management Section (ARMS) following complaints of police trainees who were claimed to have been repeatedly hit by a wooden stick by their commanding officer.

Salas said that Sia was relieved from his post for using excessive force in disciplining erring police trainees.

“Na relieve na (siya) at nasa (Administrative) Holding Section of the Las Piñas City Police Station,” the NCRPO mouthpiece noted.

She also said that an investigation is already in progress to determine the administrative and criminal cases which should be filed against Sia.

“Pinaiimbestigahan at sasampahan ng administrative at criminal case,” Salas said.

In a police report, the complainants said Sia ordered them to report to the station's headquarters at exactly 8am on Oct. 29 for administrative announcements and accounting amid the full alert status for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.

However, the police trainees failed to come on time and were then marked late. Sia then instructed them to proceed to the station's Community Affairs Office where they were sanctioned for their misdemeanor.

Sia allegedly hit the trainees with a wooden stick in different parts of their bodies, including their heads.
