Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) is on the way to finally doing away with “Filipino time,” or the Filipino’s habit for lateness.

According to the 2024 Cirium On-Time Performance Report, PAL has joined the ranks of Asia's “Most On-Time” airlines and has achieved a place in the top ten punctual airlines in the Asia-Pacific region for 2024.

The airline improved its ranking from eighth to seventh in the list of most punctual airlines, becoming the sole Philippine carrier to be included among the top 10 airlines in Asia-Pacific for their performance.

PAL achieved an on-time arrival performance of 76.06 percent, covering over 112,000 flights across the Philippine flag carrier's global network.

For the month of January 2024 in particular, PAL clinched the number one Most Punctual Airline spot with an on-time performance of 86.85 percent.

"We greatly appreciate the recognition for the monumental efforts of our employees, service partners and industry stakeholders in achieving this on-time performance milestone, which affirms the long-term investments we are making in enhancing reliability and efficiency in all our operations, and always at the highest level of safety in line with Philippine Airlines' uncompromising safety culture," PAL President and Chief Operating Officer Stanley Ng said.

On-time performance is seen as a crucial measure of how reliable and efficient an airline is, as stated on a website.

This is significant for both airlines and passengers to consider.

The seventh-place ranking puts PAL ahead of most Southeast Asian, Chinese, Korean and Australian carriers.

Airlines from Japan, New Zealand, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Australia rounded out the top ten list for 2024.

Cirium is a leading aviation analytics company based in London that has been tracking the on-time performance of airlines and airports around the world for more than 16 years to produce the longest-standing punctuality analysis in global aviation.
