AS part of the agency’s clean-up drive, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) recently launched the “Bayanihan sa Barangay” project in Pasig City to provide assistance to densely populated areas.
According to MMDA chairman Romando Artes, the project is primarily aimed to ‘bringing their services closer to the people” whom he said are living under the wrong impression that the Metro agency is limited to directing traffic.
At the launching, local city officials led by Mayor Victor Sotto and Vice Mayor Robert Jaworski Jr. led the opening of the project in barangays San Nicolas and Pinagbuhatan.
MMDA personnel from various offices including those from the Flood Control and Sewerage Management Office, Health, Public Safety, and Environmental Protection Office, Sidewalk Clearing Operations Group, and Traffic Engineering Center took part in several activities such as drainage declogging, sidewalk clearing operations, and painting of pedestrian lanes, among others.
“The MMDA is planning to make this Bayanihan sa Barangay on a regular basis to maintain cleanliness in the city,” said Artes, who hinted at building bigger parks in the city using the agency's allocation.
Sotto for his part reminded city residents that everyone’s help is needed to maintain cleanliness in their community.
The MMDA also held orientation sessions on anti-smoking, anti-littering, solid waste management, disaster preparedness, and trash-to-cash programs.
