F. Ortigas Jr. Road (formerly Emerald Avenue) is once again open to pedestrians from 6 am to 6 pm every Sunday for light exercise, pedal cars, and cycling.

LOOKING to stretch your legs this weekend?

Head over to F. Ortigas Jr. Road in Pasig as the city brings back “Open Street Sundays” for residents and non-residents alike.

Formerly known as Emerald Avenue, F. Ortigas Jr. Road in the Ortigas Business District, will be closed to vehicles from 6 am to 6 pm every Sunday to let people use the open public space.

Starting last November 21, pedestrians can jog, zumba, cycle, walk their pets, or enjoy other activities as long as they continue to observe minimum health standards.

The photos shared by the Pasig City Public Information Office also show rentable pedal cars for children and adults to enjoy.

Pasigueños are familiar with the practice when former Pasig Mayor Bobby Eusebio implemented a similar initiative in 2012 called “Carless Day” after the city ordinance No. 13 Series of 2011, promoting biking as a healthful and environmentally sound mode of transportation.

Now that the Pasig is and other neighboring cities are recording fewer new Covid-19 cases daily, it’s time to bring back the practice and promote healthy excise outdoors.

Earlier this year, BGC in Taguig also brought back what they call “My Street High Street” wherein they close 5th Avenue on the weekends to pedestrians and pop-up restaurants to promote safe outdoor dining amid the pandemic.

Is there a similar initiative in your city?
