Some Manila Zoo visitors take a look at Mali the Elephant which is easily the facility’s biggest attraction literally and figuratively for the longest time now.
The 55-year female elephant’s real name is Vishwamali and it was originally from Sri Lanka. In 1974 it was brought to Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage after its mother died of natural causes. In 1977, when Mali was three years old, she was given as a gift by the Sri Lankan government to the country through former Philippine First Lady Imelda Marcos.
