Every so often, a wellness concoction bursts into the zeitgeist.

Suddenly, everyone you know is talking about it.

Of late, people have been talking about magnesium oil. The latest fad in minimizing pain and muscle cramps is the topical use of magnesium oil.

What Is Magnesium?

Magnesium is an essential nutrient. It has multiple functions within the body, which include:
- regulating nerve and muscle function
- supporting healthy pregnancy and lactation
- maintaining healthy blood sugar levels
- maintaining optimum blood pressure levels
- manufacturing and supporting protein, bone, and DNA health

Magnesium Deficiency Can Lead To:
- Increased agitation
- Anxiety, irritability, or depression
- Short attention spans
- Problems sleeping
- Aggression
- Twitching muscles
- Teeth grinding
- Restlessness
- Constipation
- Cramps
- Low energy levels

What Is Magnesium Oil?

Magnesium oil is technically not an oil. It is a mixture of magnesium chloride flakes and water. When these two substances are combined, the resulting liquid has an oily feel. Magnesium chloride is an easy-to-absorb form of magnesium when applied topically to the skin.

Benefits Of Magnesium Oil:

1. Reduce Pain
It is an excellent muscle relaxant. Magnesium can remedy both muscle and nerve pain. When applied topically, it can provide relief for localized back pain, tendonitis, and carpal tunnel syndrome.

2. Strengthen Teeth and Bones
Magnesium is an essential key to successful calcium absorption. Tight control of magnesium homeostasis is crucial to bone health.

3. Repair Muscles
It alleviates muscle spasms, pains, and cramps. It is known to be a natural antispasmodic.

4. Sleep Better
Magnesium is a natural muscle-relaxant Magnesium oil makes it much easier to fall asleep.

5. Treat Skin Problems
Applied topically to help solve skin problems and stress-induced skin disorders like acne and rosacea, seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, and eczema.

6. Use as Deodorant
It is known to minimize body odor caused by excessive perspiration. You can add a bit of your favorite essential oil, like lavender, to smell even better.
NOTE: Do not spray on freshly shaven skin, as it may irritate.

7. Relieve Stress
It is known to be an anti-anxiety/stress agent. Magnesium quiets down the excitability of nerves, not only in our muscles and our heart but also in our brain.

Stress, pharmaceuticals, caffeine, and alcohol deplete our body's magnesium level.

8. Reduce Hypertension
Hypertension and other heart problems are often associated with severe magnesium deficiency. Magnesium, along with potassium, is key to regulating our cardiac rhythm.

9. Regulate Diabetes
Magnesium can also help regulate blood sugar.
Proper magnesium levels are essential in diabetes patients. Magnesium oil is what really kind of kick starts them into having insulin work properly.

10. Migraine Relief

Migraine sufferers have lower levels of intracellular magnesium during acute migraine attacks. Regular magnesium supplementation can reduce the frequency of migraines.

11. Reduce Symptoms of PMS
Magnesium helps PMS sufferers.

12. Prevents Gray and Falling Hair
Magnesium oil can play a vital role in slowing down, stopping, and even reversing mild to moderate age-related hair loss. Prevention, of course, is always better than cure. Use a dab of magnesium oil on your hair every time you shampoo.

It's Water-Soluble

Spray the oil on your body and rub it in. You will feel the benefit. Use it before going to bed for sound and restful sleep.

Some people who have sensitive skin report a little burning or stinging when they use magnesium oil. There is nothing in it that burns the skin or scalp. That is because it is highly concentrated saltwater. Just dilute the magnesium oil solution with water. It is water-soluble.

Mind Side Effects

Whenever you choose to add a new supplement to your regimen, it is always a good idea to check with your doctor or healthcare professional first.

But certain people should be especially mindful of possible side effects of magnesium oil, including individuals with low blood pressure, people taking anti-anxiety medication, people with limited kidney function, and those with sensitive skin.

For The Win!

Now that I have tried the cult-beloved magnesium oil — coupled with the expert caveats provided above, of course — I can honestly say that I have joined the ranks of those who swear by it for pain relief and restful sleep.

Magnesium oil for the win!
