Veteran and rookie stars shone alike at the 46th Gawad Urian awards held at the University of the Philippines Film Institute last November 30.
Veteran actor Jaime Fabregas was awarded Natatanging Gawad Urian, while John Lloyd Cruz won Best Actor for his role in “Kapag Wala Nang Mga Alon.”
Max Eigenmann, on the other hand, won Best Actress for her role in “12 Weeks.”
“Kapag Wala Nang Mga Alon” and “Leonor Will Never Die” got the lion’s share of the awards, with the former winning Best Cinematography, Best Screenplay, and Best Film and the latter bagging Best Music, Best Production Design, Best Editing and Best Director.
The winners of this year’s Gawad Urian include:
- Best Sound: Kristian Eidnes Andersen (Nocebo)
- Best Music: Alyana Cabral, Pan de Coco, and Joseph Salcedo (Leonor Will Never Die)
- Best Production Design: Eero Yves Francisco (Leonor Will Never Die)
- Best Editing: Lawrence Ang (Leonor Will Never Die)
- Best Cinematography: Larry Manda (Kapag wala nang mga alon)
- Best Screenplay: Lav Diaz (Kapag Wala nang mga alon)
- Best Actor in Supporting Role: Soliman Cruz (Blue Room)
- Best Actress in Supporting Role: Claudia Enriquez (12 Weeks)
- Best Actor: John Lloyd Cruz (Kapag Wala nang mga alon)
- Best Actress: Max Eigenmann (12 weeks)
- Best Director: Martika Ramirez Escobar (Leonor will never die)
- Best Documentary: 11,103
- Best Short Film: Sa Paglupad ka Banog
- Best Film: Kapag wala nang mga alon
- Natatanging Gawad Urian: Jaime Francisco Garcia Fabregas
The Gawad Urian is an annual award given by the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino, an association of film critics in the Philippines, and is one of the two highest awards in the Philippine movie industry (the other one being the FAMAS Awards).
