Honda and Sony will have a joint venture on electronic vehicles.

Two of the biggest companies in the electronics and automobile industry are coming together for futuristic endeavors.

Sony and Honda are exploring the possibility of forming a strategic alliance that will have the two Japanese companies possibly collaborate on technology culminating in the possibility of developing, manufacturing, and selling a battery electric vehicle (EV).

It's an exciting prospect as Honda is known for its reliable, often sportier vehicles - especially the Mugen-tuned line - and with the might of Sony's technology know-how, they're sure to put together one of the most sought after electric cars around.

In a press release published on the official Sony website, the brands detail their “strategic alliance in the field of mobility.” For the partnership, the two massive Japanese companies will form a new business entity within 2022.

In addition, the first electric vehicle from the joint company is due to hit the market in 2025.

The new company will be tasked with the design and development and to sell the new models but will not own or operate manufacturing facilities. Instead, it will use Honda's existing facilities. Both firms hope that the new venture will help them to "create a new era of mobility and mobility services".

Honda will build the first electric car using a new platform developed by Sony.

“The new company will aim to stand at the forefront of innovation, evolution and expansion of mobility around the world by taking a broad and ambitious approach to creating value that exceeds the expectations and imagination of customers,” said Honda president Toshihiro Mibe.

There is no mention of how the agreement impacts Honda's future in-house EV plans, or whether this New Company will carry a more original and marketable name. We know now only that it is natural that a tech giant such as Sony would get hitched to an established automaker to make its vision cars a reality, and we look forward to seeing where this joint venture goes.
