Unlike traditional politicians who only work for projects that would enhance their political standings while in office, Laguna First District Ann Matibag says she will tread a new path and vowed that her legacy will be on delivering long-term projects that will benefit the people especially the “Lagunanays” or mothers in the province long after her term ends.

TRADITIONAL politicians in the Philippines have adopted a myopic view when it comes to implementing projects and that is, programs that will only be implemented while they are in office.

But Laguna First District Board Member Ann Matibag is not one of those politicians.

“Nagkakampanya pa lang ako [for board member], ang gusto ko talaga na legacy ko if I enter public service is that I will have a long-term livelihood program para sa mga kababaihan,” Matibag said in an interview with Catherine Go on Wednesday’s episode of “OpinYon News Ngayon.”

During the interview, Matibag discussed several projects her office has been conducting that will improve the livelihood of mothers who were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sampaguita jewelry

One project Matibag discussed is “The Promise,” a sampaguita-based jewelry line that aims to revive San Pedro City’s primary industry.

While supplies of sampaguita and other materials are readily available, Matibag said the project has been put on hold as she cannot risk the health of mothers and their children who are the main beneficiaries of her projects.

The board member said she was surprised by the number of orders for the new jewelry line, even from other countries.

She added that the sampaguita jewelry line can be a perfect year-round gift for all occasions.

Other projects

As part of celebrating Mother’s Day in the first district of Laguna, Matibag’s staff conducted a series of feeding programs and community pantries in the cities of San Pedro, Binan and Santa Rosa.

Matibag also launched an online game where Lagunenses could give a message to their mothers with the theme “Ang Nanay Kong Mapagmahal.

“Ang dami pong sumali sa online game – in fact, may tatlong message po na kung saan naiyak po ako,” she added.
