Medical emergencies have always been a part of many people’s lives, and some emergencies deserve better than to require more than a few hours of traveling just to reach necessary aid.
For the residents of Pangil, Laguna particulary in Brgy. Galalan, the hospital is located around 20 kilometers away which was already considered the nearest local medical establishment. The situation gets worse for Brgy. Sitio Gisgis when the path itself becomes the obstacle, with no passable roads nor vehicle access, life becomes ever more uncertain.
Some emergencies can get critical from a pregnant woman in labor to cases of strokes. The lack of safe and reliable transportation can turn an already critical situation into something far worse than waiting while fully-knowing every minute becomes a deciding factor of a good outcome.
Addressing the situation is the “Life Saver on Wheels: Ambulance for Upland Brgy. Galalan,” a community-led project named winner of the 2026 LG Ambassador Challenge supported by LG Electronics Philippines.
The LG Ambassador Challenge is an ongoing initiative that aims to empower local advocates, organizations, and community leaders to propose innovative and sustainable solutions to social, environmental, and healthcare challenges faced by local communities.
For LG Electronics, this illustrates how its commitment to improving lives can extend beyond the products and technologies it provides.
When commitment turns into community action
LG Electronics, whose brand identity centers on Life’s Good philosophy, is a multinational electronics corporation centering on its unwavering commitment on human-centered innovation that makes a better life. Its vision of becoming a “Smart Life Solutions Company” sets out its ambition to deliver improved experiences across different aspects of everyday life.
Furthermore, LG anchors on pursuing broader social contribution, which guides its efforts to support meaningful social change through community partnerships and inclusive solutions.
In the Philippines, the company pursues its commitment through the LG Ambassador Challenge that launched locally back in 2022 in partnership with Korea Friends of Hope International (KFHI).
The program gives space for individuals or groups to propose practical solutions to community problems, rather than relying solely on company-led activities to create an opportunity to identify local needs and develop projects suitable to the circumstances of the people they intend to serve.
The Galalan ambulance project, jointly proposed by Missionary Yoo Byeong-guk and Pastor Ramil Repolido, is one of the projects supported by LG Philippines.
It goes beyond providing an emergency vehicle for the community as the implementation plan covers local emergency response training, coordination with the barangay council, Rural Health Unit and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and a contact system for ambulance requests.
The initiative initially set a target of serving at least 200 residents requiring urgent medical attention and reduce hospital transport delays by 50 percent annually.
