A total of 62 houses were gutted by the fire that occurred at Sitio Maligaya 6, Barangay Chrysanthemum in San Pedro City, Laguna.
About 150 families were rendered homeless by a large fire that swept through a residential area in San Pedro City, Laguna yesterday (June 1).
According to local authorities, a total of 62 houses were gutted by the fire that occurred at Sitio Maligaya 6, Barangay Chrysanthemum Tuesday noon.
The fire, which reached second alarm, was finally put under control at 3:30 p.m.
Aside from the damage to the houses, a few cars parked at a nearby subdivision were also affected by the fire.
Residents said most of them lost all their belongings due to the speed of which the fire swept through their neighborhood.
Firefighters had to breach through a wall in an adjoining subdivision to get to the residential area.
Some residents also complained that the lack of a fire hydrant in the area, along with the height of the subdivision wall, hampered efforts to put out the fire.
Affected residents are now currently sheltered at the Chrysanthemum Elementary School, while civic organizations in San Pedro City have already organized drives to assist them.
Barangay Chrysanthemum chairman Resty Hernandez said health protocols such as limiting the number of occupants to 3 to 4 families per room have been put in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the area. (ONT/With report from ABS-CBN)
