Two of Laguna province's most prominent politicians have expressed their intention to contest the gubernatorial seat at the provincial capitol this week.
LOCAL politics is about to heat up in Laguna province in the run-up to the 2022 national and local elections.
Two of the province's most prominent politicians have expressed their intention to contest the gubernatorial seat at the provincial capitol this week.
In a Facebook post Tuesday (September 21), incumbent Governor Ramil Hernandez announced his intention to run again for his third and final term.
Hernandez became governor in 2014 after former Governor Emilio Ramon “ER” Ejercito was removed from office following charges of election overspending.
He was re-elected in 2016 and 2019.
Incumbent Vice Governor Karen Agapay will be Hernandez’s running mate.
Hernandez will face off with former broadcast journalist and Laguna 3rd District Representative Marisol "Sol" Aragones, who has also expressed her intention to run for governor earlier this week.
"Pagkatapos ng siyam na taon [bilang kongresista], tayo po ay biyaheng Laguna na," the third-termer representative said in a video posted on Facebook on September 17.
Laguna is the country’s fourth vote-richest province with 1,903,107 registered voters, as of 2019.
