To belie the fake news, Mayor Arlene Arcillas uploaded a scanned copy of a clearance from the Ombudsman dated August 31, which said she has “no pending criminal and administrative cases” with the anti-graft court.

WITH campaigning for the 2022 elections now in high gear, demolition jobs and black propaganda are once again making the rounds on social media.

One of the earliest victims of “fake news” in the province of Laguna is Sta. Rosa City Mayor Arlene Arcillas, who on Thursday (October 14) has denied social media posts claiming that she was allegedly suspended by the Office of the Ombudsman on charges of graft.

In a statement, Arcillas called out a document allegedly issued by the Office of the Ombudsman that was circulated on Facebook last August.

As proof, Arcillas also posted another letter issued by Deputy Ombudsman for Luzon Cornelio Somido dated September 9, which belied the charges of graft against the mayor and other parties.

“Sa sulat, sinabi ng Deputy Ombudsman na samantalang totoo na may ganoon na case number, 𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗱𝗼 𝘀𝗮 𝗸𝗮𝘀𝗼 𝘀𝗶 𝗔𝗿𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝗸𝗶 𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗮𝗴𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗮 𝗱𝗮𝘄 𝗻𝗴 𝗸𝗮𝘀𝗼 𝗻𝗮 𝗞𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗼 𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗮,” the mayor stressed in her post.

Arcillas also claimed that the alleged document ordering her suspension was not included in the records of the Ombudsman.

The mayor, in rebuttal to the post, uploaded a scanned copy of a clearance from the Ombudsman dated August 31, which said she has “no pending criminal and administrative cases” with the anti-graft court.

Arcillas said she has forwarded the spurious posts to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), which is now investigating who was behind the social media posts.

“𝗛𝘂𝘄𝗮𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗴𝗮 𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗸𝗮𝘁𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗻 𝗻𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗴𝘀𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗱 𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗮𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗹𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗴𝗮 𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗻 𝗻𝗮 𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗱𝗮𝘄𝗶𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗼,” she concluded.

Arcillas is currently running for her second consecutive – and fifth – term as Sta. Rosa City mayor in the 2022 elections.
