San Pablo City, Laguna Mayor Loreto "Amben" Amante is the latest government official to contract Covid-19 as cases continue to climb in Laguna province and the country.

In a Facebook post Saturday, Amante confirmed that he has tested positive for the virus.

"Magkagayunman, maayos naman ang aking pakiramdan at walang sintomas ng virus," the mayor reported.

Amante also assured his constituents that he will continue to perform his duties while in isolation.

"Nais kong siguraduhin sa inyo na patuloy nating ihahatid ang best service ng ating pamahalaan at patuloy ang aking paggampan sa tungkulin sa ilalim ng work-from-home arrangement," he added.

The mayor also urged his constituents to get vaccinated against the virus, saying that this helped him and his family avoid contracting severe Covid-19.

"Gaya ng napatunayan ng karanasan namin ng aking may bahay, lubhang importante ang pagkakaroon ng kompletong bakuna at booster shot upang makaiwas sa malalang kondisyon ng Covid-19," he said.

As of January 7, San Pablo City has reported 142 active Covid-19 cases, with 9,035 total cases, 8,518 recoveries and 375 fatalities.
