“Revenge politics” may have played a role in the killing of Los Banos Mayor Caesar Perez last February, after investigators gathered enough evidence and witnesses that would link two former town officials to the crime.

LOS BANOS, Laguna- PROBERS have apparently confirmed what many local residents have long suspected that the killing of Mayor Caesar Perez last December was “politically-motivated” and the handiwork of some of his bitter foes who could not accept their defeat in the last elections.

This, after investigators recommended the filing of murder charge against two former officials of the town – former Councilor Norvin Tamisin and former civil registrar Glenn Arieta – for their alleged involvement in the killing.

Perez was shot dead by a still-unidentified gunman inside the municipal hall compound on December 3, 2020.

In an interview, Perez’s son Aldous said police investigation has revealed that Tamisim and Arieta both “played a part” in the assassination.

Aldous has insisted that the killing was politically motivated and may have been an act of revenge on the part of Tamisim, who lost to Perez in the 2019 mayoralty race.

He denied that his father was involved in the illegal drug trade even as Perez’s name was included in the national government’s list of suspected narcopoliticians, or local government officials with alleged links to the illegal drug trade.

“But I believe there’s someone bigger and moneyed behind all these,” Aldous said.

Both Tamisim and Arieta have denied their involvement in the killing.

In an interview, Tamisim claimed he had no idea how supposed eyewitnesses had placed him on the crime scene. (ONT/with report from PDI)
