A sculptor in Paete, Laguna has captivated netizens with his carvings of robots made of wood.
Among his other works, Jose Togano’s creation has become viral after he posted pictures online of a wood carving of a robot from the Japanese anime TV series Voltes V.
The two-foot movable robot sculpture is entirely made of mahogany wood.
In a Facebook post, Jose said he got inspired to carve the robot sculpture due to a childhood dream.
“Pangarap [kong] magka-robot nung bata pa [ako], pero ngayon kahit anong character kaya ko nang gawin,” he related.
As of press time, his Facebook post about the Voltes V sculpture has earned 1,800 likes and 1,600 shares.
Aside from anime characters, Togano has also became viral after showcasing his wood carvings of tricycles, cartoon characters, and other wood products.
Paete, Laguna has long been famous for its handicraft workers and their products such as wood carvings and papier mache, earning the town the distinction as the “Carving Capital of the Philippines". (ONT)
