A suspected member of the New People’s Army was killed after an encounter between authorities and the rebels in Luisiana, Laguna Wednesday.

A member of the communist rebel group New People’s Army (NPA) was reportedly killed following an encounter between joint AFP-PNP forces and the communist terrorist group in Luisiana, Laguna on Wednesday (June 9).

BGen Alex Rillera, Commander of the 202nd Infantry Brigade, said soldiers and police acted on reports of the presence of CTGs at Barangay Dela Paz when they encountered more or less seven suspected communist rebels.

"This triggered a 10-minute firefight that resulted in the death of one rebel and the recovery of a Garand rifle," Rillera said in a statement.
"May this development brings the few remaining rebels to peacefully surrender because we will never rejoice in the death of our fellowmen. We have, however, a duty to protect our people from the harms of terrorism, and we shall see to it that we will emerge victorious in this near-ending war."

The 2ID leadership commended the unrelenting efforts of troops, their unity with the police, and the cooperation of all levels of government through the Task Forces to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (TF-ELCAC) and the citizens in their area of operation.

Available military assets are placed on high alert to support the ongoing pursuit operations against the other rebels who reportedly fled the area after the incident. (ONT/With report from PNA)
