It’s that time of the year again – the time when we will once again celebrate the arrival of yet another year.
The year 2024 has been one of enormous challenges and trials, not just for us Lagunenses but also for the country in general.
Despite our local economy showing signs of having bounced back from the Covid-19 pandemic and the continued economic challenges in the national and global front, a series of typhoons in the past months not only tested our resolve but also served as a warning that unless we act decisively, weather disturbances will become more intense and more life-threatening.
Our political situation isn’t any better: despite efforts of some camps to maintain harmony and unity, analysts predict a “stormy” political climate as we once again troop to the polls this May and choose our next set of leaders.
Coupled with a Christmas celebration dampened (literally and figuratively) by bad weather, some of us might even be questioning: why the heck should we still celebrate New Year’s Eve?
There’s a simple reason why we should still welcome 2025: it’s another chance given to us.
Every year that we greet is another clean slate. It’s another chance for us to rectify the mistakes of the previous year. It’s another chance for us to become better persons, to spend more time on things that really matter.
And let’s not forget: 2025 is another chance for us to choose our leaders who will lead us through to peace, security and progress – and once again, a chance for us to become “wiser” voters and seriously consider the impacts of our votes not just for ourselves but for our children and our nation.
