Queen of All Media Kris Aquino was straightforward when she let go her fiancé Mel Senen Sarmiento because of her health problems.
Kris was casual although it definitely pained her to say she’s letting her fiancé go. She was pragmatic about the breakup, though.
The actress said she wanted to protect not only herself but her loved ones as well in this time of uncertainty.
“I want to spare myself and my loved ones from further rumors & speculations. My health has continued to deteriorate, and I will soon fly abroad for further diagnostic tests and if indeed, do all the treatments and procedures to help address my drastic weight loss (I now weigh 88 lbs/40 kilos and if still possible, strengthen my immunity. From last quarter of 2018, I’ve long known that my autoimmune conditions could only be treated BUT never cured.
“I have accepted the truth, many complications from having autoimmune may arise, especially because I am immunocompromised and we have been forced to live with a nearly two year worldwide pandemic. My faith in God has taught me I must completely surrender all, to His will and His timing," she explained in her social media spaces.
Meanwhile, Mel was open-minded and practical about Kris’ offer of letting him go for he had also some misgivings especially about joining Kris in her medical treatment abroad.
He was concerned that he might contaminate his fiancée after being exposed to people in a mall.
“I’m not sure if the people that I had close contact at the mall, especially my barber, is negative or not, and this can only be confirmed if I do a test on the 4th day and this is day 1 for me since I got exposed to people in the mall. I’m reminded of what your doctor cousin told me, the responsibility of making sure you don’t get COVID given your autoimmune (condition),” said Sarmiento in his message to Kris.
According to Aquino, she would publicize Mel’s communications with her and after everything was said and done, no more topic about him because she wanted to preserve whatever dignity was left of her.
“Sa pinagdadaanan ko ngayon, may tao bang gustong pag-usapan pa ang kanyang paghihiwalay (What I am undergoing, would there be anyone who would want to talk about separation?) But in order for me to peacefully move on, and focus on myself and my health, because my sons still need me […] I must end this chapter,” Kris said in one of her online posts.
“I will always cherish in my heart the happy moments we had together. I do love you, but I guess this is goodbye for your life is of greatest importance given that you have Bimby and Josh to take care of. You will forever be in my heart,” gushed Mel.
On the other hand, Kris only had one wish:
“I only request for some respect for my humanity and privacy now and in the coming months when I fight for my health, because I was brave enough to show you and tell you the truth,” she beamed with hope.
