In 2007, educator, nurse and businessman from CALABARZON’s neighboring town of Calapan, Oriental Mindoro Carl E. Balita produced “Nars” which featured award-winning thespians Jennylyn Mercado, Jodi Sta. Maria, Coco Martin, Joseph Bitangcol, Jon Avila, Agot Isidro, Jaclyn Jose and more.

The film was organized and shot under the Carl and Carl Productions with Adolf Alix, Jr. at the helm.

As a medical work worker, Carl was inspired to show onscreen the travails, challenges and victories of nurses, particularly in the Philippines at the time the COVID-19 pandemic wasn’t in the global health system yet.

“Basta may sorpresa ako sa inyo. Gusto ko talaga (I have a surprise for you. I really want to),” said Balita, a senatorial candidate.

He was reacting and answering a question from movie reporter Ed de Leon who asked him what the radio and TV personality has to do in support of the local film industry.

“Magpapatawag ulit ako ng presscon para ro’n (I will call for a presscon again for that),” said this Mindoriño from Calapan referring to his interest to produce a film in the nearest future.

For the meantime, Balita is concentrating on his advocacy of developing the farming system in the Philippines.

“Agriculture po ang platform ko para sa ating mga kababayan pag napunta ako sa Senado (It is my platform for our fellow Filipinos if I get to the Senate),” stressed Carl.
“Napabayaan po natin ang ating agrikultura. Kaya ito ang itataas ko (We took for granted our agriculture. This is what I’m going to focus on),” he lamented.
