CALAMBA CITY- MINORS aged 12 to 17 years don’t need to line up in vaccination sites across the city to get their Covid-19 shots, as the local government here goes school - based in vaccinating qualified individuals of the pediatric population.

Calamba City Mayor Justin Marc Chipeco said the city government had tapped the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Calamba City and private schools in carrying out the vaccination program to minors using schools as vaccination sites.

"Minabuti nating gawing school-based para hindi nahahalo sa iba't ibang mga tao. Iikot tayo sa iba't ibang eskwelahan sa Calamba para ang inoculation program ay mas mapalapit natin doon sa mga bata," Chipeco said during the rollout of the school-based vaccination program at the Calamba Science High School last Thursday (November 11).
"Ang mga instructors natin sa DepEd pati sa mga tuition-based schools ay nakausap na rin natin at magpapagawa kami ng planning sa kanya-kanyang mga school para doon sa specific age requirement na yun ay mabakunahan natin,” he added.

He asked all parents in the city to have their children vaccinated against Covid-19 to keep them from contracting severe symptoms of the disease.

Manageable

While Calamba City still records the highest number of Covid-19 cases in Laguna province, Chipeco said the city has been seeing improvements and downtrend in the active and daily new case count.

Active cases of Covid-19 in Calamba City further dropped to 94 on Sunday, November 14.

"So far nagiging effective naman po ang ating vaccination program, bumababa ang Covid-19, but we should not underestimate it, so we have to be careful especially sa ating mga anak," Chipeco said.

Information from the City Health Office showed that Calamba City has already administered a total of 332,858 doses of Covid-19 so far, with 188,185 receiving their first shots.

More residents are expected to get the Covid-19 vaccines as the city gets more vaccine allocations from the Department of Health.

With more vaccine supplies assigned by the national government, Chipeco said they are focusing to vaccinate residents in upland barangays in the coming days. (With report by Kyla Casacop)
