Hard to believe, but here we are once again at the end of another year filled with challenges, trials and triumphs.
The year 2023, it is true, was still filled with anxieties, worries and uncertainties about the future even as we all emerge from the global Covid-19 pandemic.
New conflicts around the world, new challenges to our national and local economy, new storms in our political scene as it has been proven that this year’s barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections are just a “warm-up” to the increasingly tense political situation in our cities and municipalities – all these has served to fill us with apprehension about what 2024 may bring.
And it’s just the beginning: 2024, being the year before midterm elections, is sure to become more heated up as local and national politicians (and wannabe politicians) begin positioning themselves for public attention and prominence.
With the filing of certificates of candidacies only ten months away, expect our local political scene to become more intense – and although politics in Laguna province has been largely free of the violence that has marred other areas in our country, expect tensions to flare up among our local leaders.
Still, as they say, every new year is another chance given to us to become better persons. Each new year is another page for us to fill with new learnings, new experiences, new opportunities for us to make this world – and our own little worlds – a better place than it had been last year.
Whatever our New Year’s resolutions are, may we all have the strength and the courage to fulfill the promises we have made for ourselves and our country: that we will make 2024, despite all the challenges it will bring, a “good” year for us all.
