Even before Quantum Films and Cineko Productions’ co-venture film, “Espantaho” was made, producer Joji Alonso was very excited about her forthcoming outing.
Joji didn’t mention the title of her film but she said it would be starred in by big stars and directed by an award-winning filmmaker.
True enough, when the cameras were grinding, news of a horror film by Chito S. Rono and word was circulating about the impact of the project, the Waraynon director was challenged by the beauty and relevance of the script written by Chris Martinez, a director as well of acclaimed movies.
It was only Judy Ann Santos who was the favorite subject of the press in the entertainment pages of tabloids, broadsheets and multimedia, not excluding social media to headline the movie.
Later on, the public was made to realize that Lorna Tolentino and Mon Confiado would comprise the major cast of this genre movie.
By the time “Espantaho” was adjudged and announced as one of the last five films to complete the ten official entries to the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival, the people were sure that Chito was in his best element when he finished the film.
Rono is one director who keeps his work very professionally crafted and his style is consistent from day one when he started to do films.
When “Espantaho” was announced as one of the remaining five entries to the 50th MMFF, the audience was impressed by the trailer of the movie.
Joji was the first one to greet and congratulate Rono for a job well done and she is very proud of her project. “Quantum Films’ 50th film production ESPANTAHO, makes it to MMFF 50.
“Thank you to the entire team for all your hard work! We managed to shoot in the midst of at least 2 typhoons, and still finished our sequences for said days despite all the challenges.
“Thank you to the MMFF Selection Committee and the Execom for finding merit in our film.
“I can’t wait for everyone to see what we have completed. From the superb ensemble cast, to the cinematography, to the production design, to the special effects and most importantly, the direction.
“This is the horror movie event of 2024 which one must watch on the big screen!!!” she posted in her social media spaces.
