Filipino film programmer Eunice Helera echoed what festival director Yojiro Tanaka of the Japanese Film Festival said about the theme of the 2024 Japanese Film Festival--"nostalgia."

"If you notice, the art card of the festival has images of a vintage camera and an old railroad crossing," said Eunice during our casual conversation after the presscon, launch and lunch accorded to festival.

"You see, we want to reminisce the beauty of the past especially in Japanese life," stressed Helera.

Thus, old and recently made films are lined up like "Slam Dunk" (1999) and "The First Slam Dunk" (2022), an animated sports viewing fare directed by Takehiko Inoue.

The 1999 and 2023 versions of the cult hit “Voltes V” will also see action in this year's fest.

The classic film "Tokyo Story" by the iconic filmmaker Yusijiro Ozu will also be acreened along with other memorable Japanese movies.

The JFF will kick off on February 1 and end on February 11, 2024 at the Shang-rila Red Carpet Cinema in Shaw Boulevard.

Baguio, Iloilo, Cebu and Davao cities will also run the fest from February 16 to 25.

The University of the Philippines Film Institute will screen the JFF from February 22 to March 2, 2024.
