Actress Vivian Velez is seeking legal action to recover the millions of pesos that the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) allegedly owes to the Film Academy of the Philippines.

Actress and Director-General of the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) Vivian Velez is determined to file a case against the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

In an interview with Velez during “Boy V’s Corner” over OpinYon Live last April 14, Velez said the government agency currently owes millions of pesos to FAP.

“Noon pang mga 2000s, hindi na sila [MMDA] nagsi-share ng beneficial allotment sa FAP,” she said.

She also added that based on records obtained by her office, MMDA has not remitted P82 million to the FAP.

In a report released by the Commission on Audit (COA) in 2013, the still uncollected amount for FAP had grown to P108 million.

The MMDA, which organizes the the annual Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), is mandated to allot funds to the FAP as one of its beneficiaries.

“They already owe us millions of pesos. We need the money to support the film workers,” Velez complained, adding that the jobless and hapless film workers need financial assistance from FAP which is sourced out from the amusement tax levied on the purchase of tickets to the MMFF.

While she has yet to talk with current MMDA chairman Benhur Abalos, she added that a legal move is apparent to clear out matters.

Meanwhile, in an interview of entertainment journalist Marinel Cruz with the MMDA early this year which came out on January 2, Vic Trinidad, the agency’s legal head, said that the issue could be tackled in a proper forum instead of the press.
