Will the nominations for the National Artist Award once again spark the long-running feud between die-hard Noranians and Vilmanians?

According to social media reports, Resolution 53 Series of 2021 of the Manila City Council pushed for the declaration of Vilma as National Artist because of her accomplishments as an actress in the local film industry.

It’s National Artist nomination season once again.

The latest to push for a film artist to be nominated or endorsed to the highest honor is the Manila City Council.

Manila Vice-Mayor Honey Lacuna and the city council on Friday had just filed and approved a resolution endorsing Vilma Santos to the Order of National Artist Award for Film.

Although Vilma had been nominated by various groups, including her Vilmanians in the past, she is yet to win the nod of the committee that selects the recipients of the prestigious plum.

According to social media reports, Resolution 53 Series of 2021 of the Manila City Council pushed for the declaration of Vilma as National Artist because of her accomplishments as an actress in the local film industry.

Meanwhile, Noranians, the fans of Nora Aunor, the perennial rival of Santos to throne of Queen of Philippine Cinema since time immemorial, were also fervently fighting for the ultimate victory of Nora for the same award.

Aunor’s name was already submitted twice by the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA)—two of the state agencies which deliberate and approve nominees—to the final approval for National Artist for Film by two consecutive presidents of the Philippines, namely Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III in 2014 and Rodrigo Roa Duterte in 2018, but her name was also twice omitted from the official list.

If Vi has Lacuna as backer, Guy has lawmaker Nina Taduran as supporter.

Would Manila government’s endorsement of Ate (a term of respect for an older woman or sister by blood or by affinity) Vi to the highest state honor and Taduran’s resubmission of Ate Guy’s name spark the recurrent hostility between Vilmanians and Noranians?
