Yellowjackets, Amazon Prime Season 2 (2023)
The season picks up in the dead of winter, with the 1996 survivors struggling to stay alive. The cold is relentless, food is scarce, and desperation grips the group. Shauna, still grieving Jackie’s death, keeps her frozen corpse in the cabin, speaking to it as if she were still alive.
The others grow increasingly disturbed, but the situation worsens when hunger forces them to make an unthinkable decision: consuming Jackie’s body. Though horrifying, this act gives them the strength to survive, yet it also awakens something primal and dark within them.
Lottie’s influence begins to solidify as she claims to communicate with the wilderness. She insists they must give offerings to the force that sustains them. Some, like Van and Misty, become her devoted followers, while others, including Taissa and Nat, resist her growing power. Coach Ben isolates himself, sickened by the group’s descent into savagery, and begins hallucinating about the life he could have had if he had never gotten on the plane.
Tensions mount when Javi, who had been missing for weeks, suddenly returns. He refuses to speak about where he’s been, his silence unsettling everyone. Travis is relieved but soon grows suspicious, sensing that his brother fears something—or someone—within the group.
Meanwhile, Shauna’s pregnancy becomes more difficult as her body weakens from malnutrition. She confides in Lottie, who reassures her that the baby is part of a greater destiny.
Misty finds solace in her growing friendship with Crystal, a fellow survivor who shares her theatrical interests and dark humor. However, when Crystal stumbles upon one of Misty’s dangerous secrets, their friendship takes a tragic turn, leading to yet another death.
Meanwhile, Taissa’s sleepwalking worsens, and she begins seeing disturbing visions that hint at a malevolent presence in the forest. Her rational mind fights to dismiss it, but the evidence becomes harder to ignore.
When Shauna goes into labor, the group rallies to help her, but the experience is traumatic. The baby is stillborn, sending Shauna into a deep emotional spiral. Lottie claims the baby’s death was a sacrifice demanded by the wilderness, further solidifying her control. Some survivors become devout followers, believing in her visions, while others begin to fear that Lottie’s leadership is leading them down a dark and dangerous path.
With resources dwindling and paranoia escalating, the group fractures. Lottie, now fully embraced as their spiritual leader, declares that the forest requires another sacrifice. A brutal ritual ensues, culminating in a terrifying hunt where one of their own is chosen.
This event cements their descent into ritualistic survivalism, blurring the line between necessity and bloodlust. Even those who resisted Lottie’s influence find themselves drawn into the darkness, unable to escape its pull.
In the present, the surviving Yellowjackets struggle with the echoes of their past. Shauna’s secret—the murder of Adam—threatens to unravel her life as the police close in. Her daughter, Callie, begins to suspect something is amiss, while Jeff tries to hold the family together, reluctantly helping Shauna navigate her web of lies.
Natalie, still struggling with Travis’ death, finds herself at Lottie’s wellness retreat, a supposed sanctuary that masks something far more sinister. Lottie preaches healing, but Nat quickly realizes that her methods are eerily similar to the rituals they practiced in the wilderness. Misty, determined to find Nat, infiltrates the retreat and teams up with Walter, a charming but enigmatic citizen detective with an uncanny ability to read people. Their unlikely partnership shifts between humor and menace as Misty debates whether to trust him.
Taissa, now an elected official, continues to experience dissociative episodes and disturbing visions. Simone, her wife, uncovers the extent of her decline and tries to intervene, but Taissa resists, fearing the darkness inside her. She begins to suspect that her sleepwalking self is acting under an unseen force, something that has lingered since their time in the woods. Desperate for answers, she tracks down Van, who has been living off the grid. Initially hesitant, Van eventually admits that she too has felt the lingering presence of something unnatural since their escape.
The group is forced to confront their past when disturbing events begin occurring at Lottie’s retreat. Lottie insists that the darkness they faced in the wilderness has never truly left them. She believes that they must perform one final ritual to appease whatever force has haunted them for decades.
As Lottie’s followers grow more fanatical, the former survivors realize that they are being drawn back into the same patterns of belief and violence that once defined their struggle for survival.
As the season reaches its climax, the Yellowjackets must decide whether to fight against Lottie’s influence or embrace it. Shauna, still grappling with the trauma of her past, finds herself at the center of the group’s fate.
Natalie, who has always resisted the supernatural explanations for their experiences, begins to waver as more evidence suggests that something beyond human comprehension may indeed be at play.
Meanwhile, Misty and Walter work together to uncover the truth behind Lottie’s organization. Walter’s keen investigative skills lead them to a shocking discovery: Lottie has been preparing for this moment for years, convinced that they were always meant to reunite. She believes that the wilderness has called them back for a purpose, and she is willing to go to any lengths to fulfill it.
Taissa and Van, trying to make sense of their lingering connection to the past, uncover disturbing clues about the true nature of the forces they encountered. As Taissa’s dissociative episodes worsen, she begins to question whether her darker self is truly her—or something else entirely.
As tensions reach a breaking point, the survivors realize that they are being manipulated into reenacting the horrors of their youth. Lottie demands another sacrifice, convinced that it is the only way to free them. The group is divided—some believe that giving in to Lottie’s demands will finally end their suffering, while others fight desperately to escape the cycle of violence.
In a harrowing sequence, the survivors turn on each other, each battling their own demons. The lines between past and present blur as the characters relive their most traumatic moments, struggling to break free from the grip of the wilderness. In the end, a shocking betrayal leads to Lottie’s downfall, but not before she issues a chilling warning: they can never escape the wilderness—it is inside them now.
