Tribu (Tribe) is back with a vengeance.

On October 26 (Saturday) at 8:00 p.m. at the Teatrino, The Promenade in Greenhills, San Juan City, Tribu will bring back memories of yesteryears, present the contemporary and project the future of classical and middle of the road music.

The premise goes like this.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

That is the very essence of listening to the immortal music of Tribung (Tribal) Pinoy.

Tribung Pinoy what?

Tribung Pinoy, a vocal ensemble organized by the late Danny Dolor, a banker, a former board member of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and advocate of Filipino arts and culture.

It’s good that before the beloved Danny was gone and Tribung Pinoy was on the verge of collapse, one of its members Sweet Samaniego-Buchanan, soprano, formed a nucleus of the original Tribung Pinoy and baptized it Tribu.

Pre-Covid-19 and post-pandemic saw Tribu with a string of shows, online and offline, that featured folk songs, kundiman, Broadway hits, Disney tunes and other memorable repertoire of local and foreign music.

The main difference in its coming show, “Timeless Tribu,” is its renaissance of cultural phenomenon because the group composed of exceptional artists like musical directors Samaniego-Buchanan, Margarita Roco, soprano; Terence Gil Guillermo and Nazer Salcedo, tenors and Only Torres, baritone will transport the audiences to the romantic canals of Venice, serenading the night with classical opera arias, Broadway soundtracks and other modern songs.

“If you want me to sing the great Sylvia La Torre songs, I will surely render them,” said Sweet who is a confessed Sylvia La Torre fan when this writer asked and reminisced the good old days of Sylvia La Torre.

Samaniego-Buchanan also expressed the desire of the group to pay tribute to Dolor as a patron of Filipino music.
