It’s not every day that one gets to see, hear and experience public figures talk about their innermost selves and moments.
If it happens, one engages emphatically with the subject especially if the topic is relatable to any member of the audience.
One such celebrity is Geraldine Roman, the first ever transgender lawmaker who represents the Congressional First District of Bataan.
In her YouTube Channel which is quickly gathering likes and views, the artist-politician bared all her private secrets including her romance in Spain when she was in her twenties.
“Aminan na ba (Is it confession time?” she quipped as she broke into boisterous laughter.
“Well, in my early twenties when I went to Spain, as in any single person in a foreign land, I discover the culture there and I also sold my oats,” revealed Geraldine laughing again.
Roman, without batting an eyelash, used the plural Filipino pronoun sila (they) to purportedly admit she had more than one boyfriend in Spain.
“Of course, alam n’yo na ‘yon (you know that already),” she said with a playful glance.
Her dalliances were exciting as she broke into guffaws. “One,” Ger firmly gestured her forefinger pointing up but initially suspended dropping the next word.
Until she boldly announced, “night” to dismiss the wrong notion of easy lay because apparently the Spanish guys got enamored with her. “Aba, siyempre, hinanap-hanap nila ako (Of course, they looked for me),” she said.
For Geraldine, good heart and the character of a person are the most important, the outside appearance is just secondary. “Bonus na lang ang hitsura (The looks are just bonus),” she quipped.
The transgender politician said that the most daring decision she has done in her life was her entry to public service especially when she was bashed in social media. “Mahirap pala (It’s difficult),” she said.
“Nasagot ko naman. Habang naba-bash ako, nagiging sympathetic ang mga tao (I was able to answer them. While I was being bashed, I become sympathetic to people),” she observed.
What is the saddest day of her life? Geraldine replied when her dad, the late congressman Antonino Roman, Jr. who she took care of and after eight months, her younger sister Gina died in Brazil. “Nang malaman ko ‘yon, naghihihiyaw ako. Gumagapang ako sa stairs. Para akong nagwo-walling na (I learned about it, I was yelling. I was crawling as if I was already walling),” she recalled.
Meanwhile, this Christmas, Ger zeroed in on the chicken relleno her aunt Tessie had prepared and the Spanish dishes she cooked and would share with her viewers in “Geraldine Romantik” YT in the coming episodes every Wednesday at 7 pm.
