Filming of the last season of the royal drama ‘The Crown’ will be halted as a tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II.

With the passing Britain's Queen Elizabeth last September 8 at age 96, Netflix’ historical drama series ‘The Crown’ will halt its filming for the sixth and final season.

An official statement from the creator of the show Peter Morgan was released moments after the news of the Queen’s passing.

“The Crown is a love letter to her and I’ve nothing to add for now, just silence and respect,” said Morgan.

‘The Crown’ is based on the life, career, and overall legacy of the Queen, who served Britain for 70 years and 214 days, making her the longest-reigning monarch in history.

“I expect we will stop filming out of respect too,” he further added.

Filming also will be stopped on the day of the queen's funeral, Netflix said.

The multiple Emmy-winning series began in its first season with Queen Elizabeth’s wedding to Prince Philip in 1947 as portrayed by actress Clay Foy.

Throughout its five-season run, the show has featured different actresses as Queen Elizabeth to show the different stages in her life with Olivia Colman, and Imelda Staunton succeeding Foy as the Queen got older in the show.

With Foy’s portrayal of the Queen, she won two Emmys and a Golden Globe in her two seasons in the show.

A fifth season has wrapped up and is due to be released in the streaming platform in November and is set in the 1990s following the events that led to the death of Princess Diana.

The sixth and final season is currently in production as Netflix has yet to release any details about it but is expected to showcase more recent happenings in the monarchy, including the aftermath of Diana’s passing in a fatal car accident, and its impact on the royal family.
