Thai actress Tangmo dies at 37 due to drowning
Fans across Asia mourn for Thai actress Nida Patcharaveerapong, popularly known as Tangmo, as her lifeless body was found by rescuers in Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River on Saturday, last February 26 after a 38-hour search.
Tangmo was reported missing on Thursday, February 24 after allegedly falling off a speedboat and on March 1, the provincial police confirmed that the cause of death of the actress is due to drowning.
The autopsy, which was done at the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the Police General Hospital, stated that Tangmo had sand in her lungs, which indicates that she was still breathing when she fell into the river.
In her autopsy, it was also reported that Tangmo had a “deep cut” on her left leg, which may have been from the boat propeller or had been inflicted before she fell or after her death.
On the night of her disappearance, Nida reportedly fell into the river from the back of a speedboat she was riding with a group of friends late Thursday night.
Reports have surfaced that the speedboat owner Tanupat Lerttaweewit and the driver Paibul Trikanchananan were formally charged with death by negligence while the owner is also facing additional charges of using a boat with an expired license.
In the meantime, the police are also considering whether to charge all five of Tangmo’s boat companions with negligence leading to death and making false statements, the Bangkok Post reported.
The witnesses were asked to reenact what happened on the boat the night Tangmo died in the course of five nights, as police look for inconsistencies.
One of the two women, “Sand”, went first, followed by another two men and Tangmo’s manager, “Gatick”. One of the three men, “Robert”, reportedly has not yet participated, as he has been sick.
Tangmo was one of the most popular actresses in the Thai entertainment industry starring in the movie “The Fallen Leaf” and a series called “Bangkok Love Stories: Innocence.”
