Just as Mario keeps on running, Tag Heuer challenges the wearer to also increase their physical activity, encourage heart health, and aim for physical improvement.

Luxury watchmaker Tag Heuer has teamed up with Nintendo’s most popular plumber.

The Super Mario-themed watch started pre-orders last week with only 2,000 pieces up for grabs.

In 2020, Tag Heuer launched a line of sports smartwatches under the connected technology line with a special emphasis on golf.

However, the limited edition Super Mario watch was not created for Mario’s golf skills but for his “toughness and determination [that] gets him through any challenge.”

The watch itself uses Mario’s signature red color on the red rubber strap and his “M” logo etched into the chronograph and steel clasp. Subtle details also feature the iconic Mario game elements such as the pipe, mushroom, and star.

The smartwatch has five different Mario motifs users can choose from; analog face watches with cartoon and 3D Mario or digital designs with the classic 8-bit pixel art.

As a sports smartwatch, it can also be used a pedometer.

In this collaboration watch, an animated Mario cheers you on as you reach and surpass your milestones.

For many fans of the Mario games, the watch is a sure collectible.

For sports enthusiasts and athletes, this adds a fun, game-like element to the watch’s functionality.

Even more hardcore fans have taken the timing of the sale into consideration.

The 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. was celebrated in September 2020.

For these fans, it made more sense for the Swiss watchmaker to release the collaboration piece then.

As a sports-forward smartwatch, it also might be aiming to promote the watch ahead of the Olympics just as many other watch brands are doing.

However, like with many products, it could have been delayed due to the pandemic. To the lucky 2,000 who got to order the $2,300 watch, the timing didn’t matter. They all got a 1-UP. (HD)
