Vilma Santos to return to the big-screen as she announces her collaboration with award-winning director Erik Matti and producer Dondon Monteverde.
Vilma Santos is heading for a huge comeback on screen after six years-- spent on politics-- as she revealed that she is working with acclaimed director Erik Matti on an Instagram post on September 7.
The actress dropped the news by posting a picture of her and direk Matti in a meeting alongside film producer Dondon Monteverde.
“Had a lunch meeting with Direk [Erik Matti] and [Dondon Monteverde]. EXCITING!” she captioned the photo.
“Ninang! Excited to start our projects with you. Thanks again for lunch,” said Dondon in reply to Santos’ post.
Matti then posted on his own account to confirm the news as the award-winning director cannot hide his excitement over the project.
“I’ve worked with [Vilma Santos] in a few commercials but I’ve always wished to do a movie with the Philippine film industry’s most iconic star for all seasons. We will be developing two projects with her and after hearing the stories, Ate Vi gave it a nod. A very happy, excited nod. So excited!!! Woooottt!!!” he said
Nearing her 60th year in the showbiz industry, Vilma has shared her desire to return as she took a break from politics when she decided not to run last May.
Santos has served the province of Batangas for 23 years as mayor of Lipa, Batangas governor, and Lipa representative, taking her film and TV projects at the back seat.
Her last big-screen movie was in 2016, the family drama film “Everything About Her.”
“Ang gusto ko, given a chance, makasama ko ang mga new breed of actors natin na magagaling talaga. A good script with our new breed of actors, I’m looking forward and I’m excited na makagawa ng isang teleserye or movie with them,” Santos said in March during an interview with Pia Arcangel for her podcast “Special Guest with Pia Arcangel”.
