SBTown introduces first girl group YGIG with the debut single “Shabi, Shabi”
SBTown, the company responsible for launching SB19, has finally launched its first-ever Pinoy pop girl group, YGIG (You Go I Go) to the public last November 24.
SBTown president Geong Seong Han, fondly called Tatang Robin by Filipino fans and the credited mentor and producer of SB19, introduced the seven-piece act which includes Alexei, Maeg, JM, Vien, Darlene, Hazelyn and Jewel as reported by ABS-CBN News.
YGIG formally debuted in the public by performing its first single “Shaba Shaba,” with lyrics written by the members and is apparently a word play for the Tagalog phrase "Siya ba?"
Geong talked about the increasing popularity of P-pop girl groups in the Philippines, citing BINI, KAIA and MNL48 as the current standards, Philippine Star reported.
“Here in the Philippines, it is still obvious that a lot of boy groups have bigger fandoms. But seeing the situation in Korea, it is now the girl groups that are getting more attention,” he said.
According to GMA News, the group's name reflects their teamwork in breaking through the international scene and representing Filipino culture and music.
The seven members underwent rigorous training for four years before debuting under the SBTalent Camp and was handled by famous Korean trainor Adie Hong.
Hong revealed that the inception of the group started around the same time that SB19 debuted in the country, and about 20,000 girls auditioned but only seven made the cut and trained face-to-face.
“Every training is really hard. I’m sure everyone experienced the pandemic so everyone knows how hard it is for everyone, especially the YGIG members. They are very young. They did not give up. They fully trust the company. They sincerely participated the training,” Hong said in the interview.
“Our YGIG members are very patient and sincere.”
