ACTOR Robin Padilla recently traveled all the way from Paranaque City where he and Mariel Rodriguez reside to Panganiban, Camarines Norte in the Bicol Region to transfer his voter’s registration with the local Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Panganiban was the home base of Padilla’s dad, Roy who migrated to the Bicol town in the 1960s and built his business and residency in the community.
He later became mayor of the municipality and governor of the Camarines Norte province until his death.
In his social media posts, Robin was seen filing the registration form with the Panganiban Comelec in the presence of the agency’s officials and staff, spectators and kith and kin of the actor.
In his declaration, Robin said his latest place of voter’s registration was Cuyapo, Nueva Ecija, the hometown of his mom, Eva Carino where he last voted.
There were varied reactions in the change of voter’s registration of the controversial action star. Some were happy when they saw Robin in person.
Some were indifferent about his visit while others interpreted the move as a political one.
Entertainment writer Dave Rojo, a native of Panganiban said “Wala akong masabi (I’m speechless). In a few days, plan namin ni Annie Taylor na bumalik sa amin sa (Annie Taylor and I planned to go back to) Bicol. Eh Robin Padilla was there yesterday. Yes, the Robin na (who is the) greatest supporter ni (of) PDuts.
“Nagpalista sa Comelec. Mukhang may inaasintang position sa susunod na elections. Ni hindi nga niya alam kung kaninong address ang gagamitin. Tinanong muna yung kasamang kapatid. Sa Motherlode daw. Uhm, isang sakay sa tricycle mula sa plaza ng Panganiban ang Motherlode. Buti hindi kami magkapit-bahay
(He enlisted himself with the Comelec. It seemed he’s targeting a position in the next elections. He didn’t even know what address to use. He asked first his half-brother. Allegedly, in Motherlode. Motherlode’s house is one ride from the town plaza. It’s good we’re not neighbors).
“Popular ang Padillas sa lalawigan namin pero hindi tagaroon si Robin. Taga-Nueva Ecija sila. Gagamitin niyang springboard ang Camarines Norte ng kanyang political career (The Padillas are popular in our province but Robin isn’t from there. They’re from Nueva Ecija. He’d use Camarines Norte as his springboard in his political career). And he might just win,” commented Dave.
