SEASONED actress Rita Avila didn’t mince words when she was informed that this writer had written a book on the use of sex as a topic in Philippine cinema.
During my provincial sortie in Lopez, Quezon recently, she expressed once more her desire and commitment for women leadership in the country, Rita was apparently thrilled when she saw that the book would inspire and add more dimension to research on the local movie history.
The actress is one of the main subjects of “SekSinema (Gender Images in Philippine Sex Cinema Enfolding Pandemia),” the newest book published by this author.
“Puwede nating gawin siya ng video (I can make a video about it),” exclaimed Avila at Agatha’s along the Lopez Diversion Road.
It was such providential that she was in the countryside where this writer was born and raised. “Tagarito ka pa (So you’re from here),” added Rita who was in her pink dress.
In less than a day, Avila uploaded an endorsement of the book which is a socio-political analysis of sex in Philippine cinema from the earliest movies of sex siren Elizabeth “Dimples” Cooper and debonair actor Luis Tuazon, one of them, “Ang Tatlong Hambug” where the couple had the very first Filipino screen kiss produced and directed by the Father of Philippine Movies Jose Nepomuceno in 1926 to the current skin flicks live streaming in cyber apps.
