From the list of award-winning Filipino actors, Extraordinaire Creative and Marketing Corporation and film director Francis “Jun” Posadas has unanimously chosen Richard Quan to play the lead role in a biopic of a governor from the South.

“Nagkaisa na kami na si Richard Quan ang gawing bida sa pelikulang (We were united in making him portray the protagonist in) ‘Kuya’,” Posadas announced Thursday night in an online interview.

“Kuya” is a film biography of Edwin Jubahib, who is the incumbent Governor of Davao del Norte.

Jubahib, a political figure who rose from the ranks as a farmer, a bus conductor until he finished college, went to Japan to train in technical engineering and later, established his construction business.

He ventured into politics as a campaign manager in Mindanao for the presidential bid of Manny Villar in 2010, after which he became personal assistant to former Congressman and House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez.

“Bagay na bagay si Richard sa persona ni (Richard fits into the person of) Governor Jubahib,” said Jun.

Other cast members include Bembol Roco, Marissa Delgado, Levy Ignacio, Jess Sanchez and Juan Rodrigo as Alvarez, among others.

“Kuya” will start shooting after Holy Week, Posadas said.
