Seulgi of k-pop girl group Red Velvet to release a solo album in October after eight years of doing group projects.
Red Velvet member Seulgi to release her first solo album in October as agency SM Entertainment confirmed the speculations on Tuesday, September 6.
SM Entertainment made the announcement to local media regarding Seulgi’s solo project.
“Seulgi is currently working on her solo album, with the goal of releasing it in October. Please show lots of interest [in the release],” Red Velvet’s label said per Sports Kyunhang.
Red Velvet is a quintet girl group — Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, Joy and Yeri — who made their debut in August 2014 and has been racking up hits after hits including “Red Flavor,” “Power Up,” “Bad Boy,” “Psycho,” and “Queendom”.
Their last comeback as Red Velvet was back in March of this year with the release of the EP “The ReVe Festival 2022 – Feel My Rhythm,” which sold the second-most copies in the first week of sales for a K-pop girl group at the time.
After eight years as a group, Seulgi will be the third member to come out with an official solo project after Wendy’s mini-album “Like Water” in 2021 and Joy’s EP “Hello” in May.
Yeri, on the other hand, has also released separate projects such through the label’s SM Station project or K-drama OSTs.
Seulgi also has her own projects before this such as singing for the original soundtrack on the drama “The Crowned Clown” in 2019.
She is also a part of the group’s only subunit, Irene & Seulgi, with the former who is the leader of the group and released the mini album “Monster,” which included two singles, “Monster” and “Naughty”.
Seulgi was also named as a part of SM Entertainment’s female supergroup Girls On Top, which includes fellow Red Velvet member Wendy, K-pop soloist BoA, Girls’ Generation members Taeyeon and Hyoyeon and Aespa members Karina and Winter, releasing their first digital single ‘Step Back’ in January.
