Manila Rep. Joel Chua said he is delighted that the cultural heritage of Quiapo is played up in the teleserye to be shown next year on ABSCBN.
Lawyer and urban poor advocate Rep. Joel Chua (3rd District, Manila) proudly endorses the reboot of Fernando Poe Jr.’s film “Batang Quiapo” when it sees the light of day in ABS-CBN’s teleserye with the same title.
Rep. Chua said the hospitality of Quiapo residents will roll out when the drama series which stars Coco Martin and Lovi Poe starts airing next year.
“We welcome this string of chances to proudly show to the entire country and the whole Filipino nation how Quiapo is today and how warm and vibrant our community is,” Chua exclaims.
The television version of the 1986 movie “Batang Quiapo will highlight the cultural artifacts of the district," Chua said.
He added that the TV show will definitely shed light on the rare screen exposure of Quiapo as a special opportunity to showcase the city in House Bill 3750, which he filed and is now pending, known as Quiapo Heritage Act.
Chua, who represents the residents of the Northern Manila Districts of Binondo, Quiapo, San Nicolas and Santa Cruz, wants to preserves the identity and uniqueness of Quiapo.
The lawmaker also speaks on behalf of his constituents. “Quiapo residents are joyful and proud their community will share the spotlight in the TV series,” he says. “I express their gratitude and appreciation and the residents of adjacent areas of Manila’s Third Legislative District on the decision and moves of ABS-CBN to adapt to free television the film version of FPJ.”
The new action caper also stars Christopher de Leon, Lito Lapid, Tommy Abuel, Pen Medina, Cherry Pie Picache, John Estrada and Susan Africa.
