The Visayan movie industry and the Philippine cinema have just lost one of its pioneering luminaries.

Gloria Sevilla, known as the Queen of the Visayan Movies passed away in her sleep on April 16, 2022 inOakland, California.

This was announced by two of her children, Dandin Ranillo and Suzette Ranillo.

“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my mom Gloria Sevilla, the Queen of the Visayan Movies. Thank you for all your prayers,” exclaimed Dandin.

In the 1960s, Gloria and her first husband, actor Mat Ranillo, Jr. started the Cebuano filmmaking business with such hits as “Badlis sa Kinabuhi,” “Gimingaw Ako,” among others.

Although Gloria and Mat were already actors in the Tagalog movies, they still wanted to produce and star in Cebuano films.

Ranillo died in a plane crash in 1969.

Sevilla remarried many years after being widowed, this time with actor Amado Cortez.

No details yet of her funeral at the moment.

She was 90.
