Originally planned to soft launch on mobile devices in Canada and enter open beta on desktop this year, Pokemon’s trading card game will instead see both launches shifted back to 2022.

Bad news to Pokémon fans: the trading card game live is officially delayed to next year.

Originally planned to soft launch on mobile devices in Canada and enter open beta on desktop this year, the game will instead see both launches shifted back to 2022.

In a message sent out on the official Pokémon TCG Live Twitter account, the explanation for the move is part of the team’s effort to provide players with a more “polished experience.”

Ahead of the game’s launch, some Pokémon TCG products were packaged with code cards that displayed Pokémon TCG Live branding.

The Pokémon TCG account assured fans that these code cards are still redeemable in Pokémon TCG Online, though there’s no word as to whether the codes will still be redeemable in Pokémon TCG Live if they have already been used in playing the Online version.

Nintendo itself announced the launch of the Pokémon TCG earlier this year.

“As we look back on 25 wonderful years of Pokémon, we are once again reminded of how the Pokémon Trading Card Game has always been a strong pillar of the franchise and beloved by young and veteran Trainers alike,” said Barry Sams, vice president of the Pokémon TCG at The Pokémon Company International.

“Pokémon TCG Live will go hand in hand with the tabletop version that fans know and love, and welcomes a new era of digital play where Trainers around the world can play together regardless of their preferred platform.”

Pokémon Trading Card Game Live is an application version of the current TCG Online game with improved UI and functions.

TCG Live will improve on the existing app and will allow players to play the TCG with others on PC or mobile.

Though players can play against each other, there will be no in-game trading options, which is an odd omission for a trading card game.

TCG Online players will be able to transfer much of their data from the old game to TCG Live to streamline the upgrade.

As more people are buying and collecting Pokemon cards all over the world, it is a very anticipated release in the gaming world.
