Good actors never fade, especially in the Philippines. They simply work away their asses away.

Such is the attitude of veteran and award-winning actress Odette Khan in her five decades in the local film business.

“I am here in show business to work. I work for myself and for my family,”

Odette intimated publicly in her recent guesting in this writer’s online show, “Boy V.’s Corner” in OpinYon Facebook Live Wednesday morning.

If ever, she said, she would earn another acting trophy it would be bonus. “Being nominated for me is already winning.”

Proud of URIAN

Yet, hands down, she won as Best Supporting Actress in the 2018 Gawad Urian of the prestigious Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino (MPP) for the heartwarming film “Bar Boys” directed by the progressive filmmaker Kip Oebanda.

“Urian is such an independent body. It’s honorable so my winning was also as honorable,” she observed when this writer paid her a visit in her home in Barangay Rosario in San Pedro City, Laguna.

Khan disclosed that she never felt she would clinch the Gawad Urian trophy that year because of the stiff competition among equally excellent actresses posed by the nomination from a credible awards body.

Finally, when her name was called as the winner, Odette said she couldn’t believe what she heard even after the awarding was over.

Nang umuwi ako sa San Pedro pagkatapos ng awards night, high na high pa rin ako sa napanalunan ko (When I went home to San Pedro after the awards night, I was still high of what I won),” she exclaimed.

A Chance To Get The Lead

At this moment, Odette confided that she doesn’t expect an acting award higher than her supporting actress plum.

Wala na siguro. Mahirap na. Ako ba naman ay mabibigyan pa ng papel na bida? Hindi na (I don’t think so. It’s difficult. Would I still be given a chance to play a lead role? No more),” she said humbly and smilingly.

Nothing is impossible in life, this writer told Khan and mentioned the more senior Anggie Ferro who lately been doing big, heroine roles and winning accolades and trophies in the process.
