National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) chairman Nick Lizaso says he would rather see historical and literary adaptations in movies.

Lizaso has seen all types of movies in his lifetime not only because his family owned a movie house in Sta. Maria town in Bulacan province but he is a filmmaker himself.

Arsenio J. Lizaso, also known as Nick Lizaso, has been in the entertainment industry for the last six decades.

Being an octogenarian, he has devoted most of his time in the advancement of arts and culture in the fields of literature, film, television and theater.

He has seen all types of movies in his lifetime not only because his family owned a movie house in Sta. Maria town in Bulacan province but he is a filmmaker himself.

That is why he is discerning and discriminating about the kinds of films every generation of makers produce.

In this regard, he is very sure of his stand.

“Pasintabi, ayaw ko ng mga pelikulang mula sa hangin (I don’t like movies which are derived from the wind),” Nick metaphorically and apologetically exclaimed when asked about his possible return to directing.

“Ang gusto ko, may basehan sa kasaysayan tulad ng mga paghalaw sa mga likhang pampanitikan (What I like in movies are the ones based on history like adaptations from literary creations),” Lizaso

opined without necessarily dropping his support to the project “MALA (Movies Adapted from Literary Arts),” a component of his program “Sining Sigla,” an online showing of various art forms to sustain the artistic and cultural pursuits of the Filipinos during the COVID-19 pandemic spearheaded by the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) which he presides.

Nick clarified, though, that he isn’t keen on directing movies now.

“Siguro, sa likod na lang muna ng kamera (Maybe just behind the cameras),” he said in an interview in "Boy V's Corner,"

an online show in OpinYon Facebook Live every Wednesday at 11 am.

Lizaso is known for directorial films as “Markadong Anghel” (1976) which top billed Alma Moreno and Tirso Cruz III, “Flor de Liza” (1981) which featured Janice de Belen, “Ulo ng Gapo” (1985) which starred Rudy Fernandez etc.

Nick is also the Chairman of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
