The 1975 wipes their social media clean in preparation for a new era.

A new era of The 1975 band is on its way after the band confirmed that a fifth studio album is in the works via an Instagram post and by going old school with posters popping up across London with frontman Matty Healy and the date July 7 featured in the paraphernalia.

“Your new album. Your new era. Your old friends. The 1975,” reads the caption of the announcement post.

Like almost all of their works with some underlying deeper meanings, the band chose to drop the news on June 1st, an important date for the band as they came up with their name based on a book that contained the writing “1st June, the 1975.”

In the same post, the band shared that the reason for their extended break from the scene aside from the pandemic’s ongoing restrictions is that they wanted to wait “until we can be sure that we will be able to play shows in a way that is safe for our fans and crew.”

On their respective Instagram accounts, the band members consisting of Healy, George Daniel, Ross MacDonald and Adam Hann shared some posts with the letters “BFIAFL,” possibly containing the initials of their upcoming album title.

The band’s last record was Notes On A Conditional Form in 2020 and since then The 1975 have collaborated with No Rome and Charli XCX on the single “Spinning,” and Healy and Daniel collaborated with beabadoobee to produce the Our Extended Play EP.

Just last October, Matty also had a surprise solo-acoustic gig in Los Angeles while opening for Phoebe Bridgers in which he debuted two new songs.

This upcoming August, The 1975 will also make their live return, playing two gigs as part of Japan’s Summer Sonic Festival, their first live shows after performing in Dublin in March 2020.
